Scott Soldiers on, Storms the Top Ranks
Second-straight weekly win leads the assault on the elite
-----------------
The pool is a more democratic home for equality thanks to our favorite American hero, Scott Wyatt. For the second straight week, Scott has himself bunkered in the best position of all, but this week he actually did some damage to the front lines. Whereas Godsey's 4th place finish negated any kind of advance last week, Godsey's retreat (his first non-Top Ten finish in about 13 weeks) gave the whole pool an opportunity to advance. Scott gained an impressive 22 points on the leader and is now only 35 points out; The Godfather gained 20 points and now lurks in third place, just 14 points out; Diane gained 6 points to cut Godsey's lead by 33%; Keith "I got you just where I want you" Wengronowitz gained 9 points to stay in the Slate Race; Money gained 17 points to pull within striking distance as well. Eric Emerton was about the only contender to lose ground on Godsey, and now E sits a disturbing 33 points off the pace.
Stats and Observations
------------------
Scott’s weekly win was the 8th of his life, passing JLee on the all-time list, and moving up to 10th on the all-time list, tied with Diane, Wego, Schuss, and Banker Bill. It was the 8th time that Sabbe has finished in last place, tying him with Patrick Godsey for 11th on the all-time list.
Only Bill Ellis (twice), Robert Emerton, Kevin Sabbe, Mike Schussel, Kathy Wyatt, Eric Emerton, and Chris Sabbe (first season) have won back-to-back weeks.
Only Eric Emerton and Chris Sabbe (first season) have won three straight weeks.
It has been almost an entire season (16 weeks) since Zack Schwartz has won any money, which is the 8th longest streak in the history of this pool. But, he is leading Week 10 after Thursday night.
Money is 10-0 with his 9-pick.
Wego is 10-0 with his 11-pick.
Mike Godsey is 18-0 on games involving Detroit or Houston.
Kevin Sabbe finally missed a Steeler game.
After his wife almost went an entire season without picking a Jaguar game correctly, Money is currently 2-7 with the Jags.
Kurt Schwartz is 1-8 with the Browns.
Adam Jennings has a record of 4-19 with any games involving the Redskins, Jags, or Dolphins.
DOliver is 3-15 with the Broncos and Dolphins.
Kevin Sabbe is 1-8 with the Titans. And he picked against them again this week (with a 12), refusing to believe.
POW and COW!
----------------
Adam Jennings wins another POW, which might be some kind of record for most POWs in one season (3). This time, it was Adam's really smart but amazingly unique dozen on the Dirty Birds. Of all our active participants, only Patrick Godsey has more POWs in his life. Meanwhile, Kevin's dozen on the Raiders was a mistake, but still. But still.
Random News: Lady Tigers start practice
-------------------
The SLO High girls' basketball team (24-51 over the past 3 years) (9-27 in league) (1-22 against their five biggest rivals) started practice today with their new coach, Mike Godsey, who has never coached basketball, has never coached anything at a varsity level, has never coached a girls' sport of any sort, and had admittedly never understood girls in any way, in any degree. You might think that "Money" Retsek, "Funky" Wyatt, or "Jennaroo" Retsek might be ready to help out, but they claim that "children are important and take time" or something to that effect. At least Franzen has offered advice: "You totally have to wear an all-white suit on the first home game, and then have everyone in the crown wear white." If you'd like in on the newsletter, email Godsey with the message "I'm in."
Today!
-------
Money's Bears (a onesie) at Banker Bill's Packers (a dozen). Oh yeah, and Franzen's Packers (a full boat).
Raider Nation (0 picks) at Kurt Schwartz's Dolphins (a 15)
Adam's Browns (a 7) at Diane's Bills (a 5) on Monday night
Leader Watch:
--------------
Godsey has the top pick on the Falcons and Ravens. If either team loses, the entire pool gains. The same pretty much goes with the Chargers (3rd highest pick).
See ya then...
