The Official FunkyDome Memorial NFL Pool Rule Book
Manifest
The FunkyDome Memorial NFL Pool is a privately run contest for fun
among friends and family. Those participating are expected to abide by
the doctrine of good faith and the spirit of competition.
Rule 1 Name
The name of this pool is the "FunkyDome Memorial NFL Pool", and the
"FunkyDome Memorial NFL Pool" shall be its name. The official
abbreviation shall be "FMNFLP".
Rule 2 Slate of Champions
Each season, the winner of the FunkyDome Memorial NFL Pool will be
awarded the Slate of Champions. The Slate is a plaque with space upon
which to have names engraved. When the season is completed, the winner
will have his/her name engraved on the Slate, and then will be given the
Slate to hold for a year.
Rule 3 The Council
The Council is a three-member board comprised of selected founding
members of the NFL Pool. It is the responsibility of The Council to make
rules interpretations, rule changes, and shape the NFL Pool for the good
of all mankind.
The Council has the highest binding authority in the NFL Pool in all
matters. Simple majority vote is necessary and sufficient for passing
resolutions. Decisions by The Council are final, and cannot be appealed.
The Council reserves the right to modify these rules at any time.

Rule 4 The Pool
The FunkyDome Memorial NFL Pool is a season-long competition consisting
of weekly contests whose points are totaled to determine the winner.
Each week in the NFL season, the participants are expected use the website
to submit picks. If an issue arises with the website picks can be mailed
ONLY to a council member, and before that week's main deadline.
Rule 5 Awards and Fees
The fee for participating in the pool is $80. Engraving / shipping fees of $20 will be deducted from full pot. Weekly and Overall payouts are shown at the site.
Rule 6 Yearly Propositions
Yearly Propositions are posted at the site, things like 'GB to win NFC North - X-1', 'SF to win NFC West - Y-1',
each with odds that operate as points on that item.
Each poolster selects from the available items a total of exactly FIVE. Points for correct selections are awarded at the conclusion of regular season for a total regular season pts value. (an 'extra week' of pts essentially)
THE DEADLINE for yearly proposition selections is the first kickoff of the Week 1 schedule - which is
likely a Thusday night at 8:15 Eastern (as the site enforces). Note that main picks for Week 1 consider this an early deadline for Week 1 (see Pick Deadlines / Submitting Picks Rule), and therfore operate mainly off the Sunday main deadline. But, Yearly Props selections are DUE by the first kickoff of Week 1.
Rule 7 The Regular Season
Each week in the NFL regular season, the participants will pick ALL games for the week,
and then rank them - 16,15,14,13,12...7,6,5,4,3,2,1. (or starting at 15, 14, or 13, where weeks only have so many games)
Point spreads are NOT involved, the original format of the pool. Point spreads where used for a span of years before 2019, when the format returned to the non-spread format.
Should a game end in a tie, the pts awarded are half of the point value put on the game, rounded down if uneven. For example - if 12 pts wagered on a game ending in a tie, the pts earned are 6. If 11 pts wagered on a game in a tie, the pts earned are 5.
Each person also submits a total number of pts scored (both teams) in Monday night game for 2nd tiebreak purposes (listed below). Failure to indicate one with picks results in the default of '0'
WEEKLY TIEBREAKERS:
1st Tiebreaker: Total # Games Correct that week
2nd Tiebreaker: Closest to Total Pts for Monday Night Game -- collected with weekly pick submission.
3rd Tiebreaker: Matching up picks.. so Correct on 16, 15, 13, 11, 8.... would be better than 16,14, 13, 9, 8... - since one person got the 15 correct, with the other getting their 14 pick as the 2nd correct..
If all tied, money places are split.
Rule 8 The Post Season
BRACKET: The regular season finishing slots into a 16 slot bracket (see Playoffs page). Seeding is based on regular season pts earn (INCLUDING yearly propositions pts) Depending on the number of entrants, there might only be 14 making the playoffs, with #1 and #2 seeds having first round byes. This is dependant on the number in the pool - typically no more than half make the playoffs.
TIEBREAKERS FOR SEEDING: Should there be a tie in regular season points, ties are broken by (a) Total Number of games correct during the year, then (b) Whoever finished better in last regular season weekly leaderboard.
POINTS: Points are now bad points -- you don't want points. Each player selects an exact score for each game of the week, numbers for both teams. The points earned in the game are (a) Difference in Margin of Victory (b) + 10 pts for wrong team (c) + Difference in Total Pts / Both Teams
Example: Suppose ATL vs. GB in a game, with Atlanta favored by 6.5. Suppose ATL wins the game 27-17
- (1) Pick of ATL 33-21 :: 2 pts (margin off) + 0 pts (correct team) + 10 pts (total pts difference) = 12 pts.
- (2) Pick of GB 28-24 :: 14 pts (margin off, 10 wrong way + 4) + 10 pts (wrong team) + 8 pts (total pts difference) = 32 pts.
(Don't worry!, the ECA page will allow for real easy scenario testing as the games move on)
SEEDING 'HOME FIELD' ADVANTAGE: The seeds indicate that a player did better in the regular season and thus has a home field advantage. This advantage is DIFFERENCE IN SEEDINGS times 2. Example: #3 vs #14 in the first round, the #3 seed starts with a 22 pt advantage in the picks. #14 must win by 23 pts or more on their picks to move on.
TIE IN POINTS: In any matchup, if a tie happens in points (of course taking into account the seeding advantage already), the better seed moves on. So, in the example above - 3 vs 14 - the 14 seed must overcome the 22 pt disadvantage to move on. If #3 earns 78 true points in pick, #14 earns 56 pts true points -- then the 22 pt initial advantage makes them 78-78, and the #3 seed moves on.
ORDERING FINAL FINISHES / PAYOUTS: The first 3 weeks of playoffs involve multiple people being eliminated. Those people will all earn a final payout based on their seeding achieved. Suppose the #1 seed is upset in the first round. The worst they can place is 9th place, next best seed losing in first round gets 10th, and so on.
Rule 9 Pick Deadlines / Submitting Picks
Historically, picks have always been due at the kickoff of the first game of the week. The NFL has decided on
a Thursday night game for a large number of weeks. This presents issues with making your picks on all the games
on a Thursday when you have less then a full set of game information, and frankly haven't really had time to
think about the games. With that, we introduce the early pick deadlines.
MAIN DEADLINE: A main Sunday deadline - including Monday game(s) - is still in effect as usual.
This is typically 1 PM Eastern on Sunday, except on Saturday main game days, say, during a week with Christmas on a Sunday. Once this deadline passes, all picks are viewable, and the ECA page will be usable that week.
When there are games early in a week (example Thursday night, Saturday night), poolsters can submit picks / point values for just those game(s), and
wait until later in the week to submit the rest of their picks.
In cases where a user cannot submit picks at the site, an email by kickoff to one of the council members is/can be accepted. Hereforth, 'by kickoff' of the game - for the purposes of emergency email pick submissions is the deadline posted AT THE WEBSITE.
EARLY DEADLINE GAMES. An early game deadline is the kickoff of such games of that day. For weeks with just a
Thursday night deadline, this is simple, kickoff of that game. For Thanksgiving, ALL three games have a deadline of
their respective kickoffs. Late in the season there is often a Thursday and Saturday night game. Two early game deadlines
apply in this case.
PLAYOFFS: The deadline for playoff picks is still just one deadline a week, around kickoff of that week.
YEARLY PROPS: The five selections for year long propositions are due by Week 1's first kickoff - NOT the main Sunday deadline that week.
FUTURE WEEKS: Poolsters are free to submit picks for weeks in the future.
SEEING PICKS: (i) Picks page will show just early game picks only
(ii) ECA web will only be available after the main weekly deadline.
MISSING EARLY DEADLINE(S): Should someone miss a pick for an early deadline game, they will not necessarily be charged a 16 pt miss for the game. They will be charged one more pt then the worst pick made. Example, a pool members picks the losing team for 5 pts, and everyone else in the pool picks less pts then that, or the winning team. The person missing the game/pick will have their 6 pt selection be the losing team.
Rule 10 'Hurricane' Rule
On occasions where the NFL moves a game due to extraordinary circumstances during the week of play,
pool members will still be able to submit picks under the following rules:
Broadcasted messages about a pick deadline are sure to go out as quickly as possible, but if a poolster
is not paying attention to the news or their email, questions may arise.
If a game is picked past the main deadline, the points will be awarded (or not) when the game is played at a later time. If the game is never played, the pts are lost
Rule 11 Statute of Limitation on Correcting Errors
Any errors in regular season totals, standings, money payouts and/or
advancements must be corrected prior to the beginning of the playoffs,
and any errors in totals, standings and/or advancements for a playoff
week be corrected prior to the following week. This rule applies
to the Super Bowl as well.
More specifically, any errors in regular season numbers must be brought
to the attention of the Commissioner's Office no later than noon, Eastern
Time, of the Wednesday following the conclusion of the regular
season. Any errors in a particular playoff week must be brought to the
attention of the commissioner's office no later than noon, Eastern
Time, of the Wednesday following that playoff week.
The deadline for correction of regular season numbers applies to all
regular season weeks. The statute of limitation for correction of any
and all regular season numbers will extend through the Wednesday
following the conclusion of the regular season. However, errors in a
particular playoff week MUST be corrected before the following week.
Should an error be discovered after the applicable deadline, the
correction shall not be made, and the erroneous numbers shall stand as if
they were correct. No attempt will be made to make money payouts or
point standings "equitable" based on any arbitrary metric.
