Wego backdoor? Wyatt denied after circling week
Papa Emerton regains the lead, the love
-----------------------------------------------------
Before the Sunday night game was even complete, Tully Wyatt was already
popping the bubbly on a weekly win, wishing everyone a happy holiday, and
basking in the fact that his Whaler logo would be prominently displayed on
this week's FunkyPage. Frankly, we were already writing the first draft of
a "FunkyTown" recap. And then, the next night, Keith Wengronowitz's
unpublished revisions were suddenly published. At presstime, we have no
info regarding why they were published so late; but at presstime, we know
who won the week: Wego. It's a final. Circle it.
Though there were several little changes in his final revision, it
appeared that a new lack of faith in Indy and an intensified belief in the
Steelers were the difference for Wegowintheweek.
In other news, Robert Emerton took his overall lead back with his 17th
place finish, and his son Eric finally finished in the money after a 7-week
drought. Mike Godsey finished in the money for the 68th time in his life,
tying Sabbe for the most overall money finishes. It is the 5th straight
week that a Godsey has finished in the money, and they have now come all the
way from last place to take control in the race for the Brothers' Belt. And
"Cowboy" Hassanali rode the Cowboys to a third straight money finish,
pulling him up to 9th overall.
Kathy Wyatt, since taunting Patrick with an echoing sound in the trash
talk room, has finished 17th, 16th, last place, and now last place, and has
fallen from 2nd place to 21st overall. Scott Wyatt, likewise, after failing
to submit picks, has fallen from 5th place (week 9) to 20th overall.
Speaking of which, 2006 continues to be a season of volatile swings in
standing. Chris Sabbe has gone from 2nd to 12th to 5th; Bill Ellis has gone
from 20th to 5th; Godsey has gone from 18th to 8th; Tully went from 4th to
19th (now 12th); Schussel has gone from 5th to 23rd; Kevin Sabbe has gone
from 9th to 24th in 3 weeks; and Hassanali has gone from nearly last place
(Week 7) to a playoff spot. Compare to last year, where from Week 8 to Week
12, only 3 poolsters changed more than 4 spots in the standings (remember
the articles regarding the yawns? this year is much better for the fans at
home).
But the obscene pack hovering around the playoff line is *finally*
showing signs of dispersing: Nine players are within 10 points of the
cutoff, which is still exciting, but not as dramatic as last week. More
exciting, because Diane and Mr. Emerton finished in 20th and 17th
respectively, the pack has edged closer to the Slate. Last week, nobody
else was within 30 points -- now Money Retsek is 30 points out...in 7th
place.
Stats!
*****
Also exciting: Bill Ellis hit his 2nd solo shot of the season, with the
Eagles on Monday night. Adam Jennings was the only playa to pick the
Browns. These are 2006's 6th and 7th solo shot, compared to 2005's snoozing
5 shots.
This season, in Week 13, Money is 30 points off the lead, in 7th place.
Last season in Week 13, Money was 36 points off the lead, in third place.
It has been 111 weeks since a Wyatt brother has hit a solo shot.
This was Wego's 7th career weekly win, tying JLee and Diane on the all-time
list.
Jen Retsek is the only one who hasn't won any money this year. This week
she missed by a tiebreaker.
Jen is 0-12 with the Jaguars, which HAS to be some kind of new record.
Wego is 22-2 with Bay Area teams.
Adam Jennings (7-5) and Chris Sabbe (7-5) are the only players with a
winning record on Atlanta.
As a pool, we are better than 50% at picking every team except Jacksonville
(41%) and Atlanta (37%).
Of the 522 points wagered on the Lions to win, 37 points have been returned.
JLee is 1-12 with his 3-pick.
Wego is 13-0 with his 12-pick. He is 13-13 with his 11- and 13-picks.
Jen Retsek is 3-10 with her 9-pick.
Both Michael and Patrick Godsey have picked as many games correctly as Mr.
Emerton.
Nobody has picked more games correctly than Jason Sullivan, who is in 10th
place.
If Only...
Tully Wyatt would've won the week his wife's Broncos could've won at
home,
or...
Tully would've won the week if Niners had won.
Or if the Lions had won.
Or if Eli Manning could beat the Cowboys.
Or if the Colts had beaten the Titans.
Or if the Chiefs had won. Overtime!
Kurt would've won if the Bills had won.
DOliver would've won if his Raiders could beat the Texans at home. Or if
Green Bay had won.
Hassanali with the Dolphins.
And finally, if the Ravens had beaten the Bengals, Jen Retsek (?) wins the
week. Sorry, still no money.
POW!
Kurt Schwartz slammed the pool with a convincing 5-time-nominated POW,
thanks to his gigantic points on the Titans over the Colts. It is Kurt's
first-ever award of this type. Nice job, KZ.
The Clown Pick of the Week was not so obvious, but it eventually went to
Farnsworth's pewter pride. Big pewter pride. It is not Scott's first-ever
award of this type. It is in fact his 12-and-a-halfth rainbow wig, the most
of anyone. Ever. In any pool.
Next Week! 12-10!
Kathy's Broncos at Patrick's Chargers (he'll be at the game)
Diane's Bills at Zack's Jets
Sully's Pats at Wyatt's Dolphins
Mr. Emerton's Giants at Godsey's Panthers
and Monday night...
Money's Bears at Jenaroo's Rams
Remember that picks are due on Thursday every week now.
