Godsey-inspired Money Wins Week 16
Money-inspired Godsey finishes with $7
********************************************************************
Sitting in the Uptown Cafe in San Luis Obispo, Dylan Retsek said he suddenly
saw what he called "The Godsey Light." He eagerly perused the slate of
games looking for "fun" picks, and ended up with an intelligent, yet frisky,
collection of picks: His Bears for 16, an anti-Raider 15, an anti-Viking 14,
an anti-Eli 11, and so on. The final result was a weekly win -- the 13th of
his career -- and a possible final rush for his 3rd Slate.
Ironically, sitting at the same table, Godsey resigned from any
desperate playoff push, and just tried to pay for his gingerbread latte.
With a dot-total almost as low as Wyatt's, Godsey hated Eli as much as he
could, and then laid low with most of his other picks. The final result was
a money finish -- the 63rd of his career -- and a possible longshot
opportunity at the playoffs.
Kurt Schwartz also picked up a dime on the leader by finishing 2nd.
Hassanali picked up 4 points on Emerton and finished 4th. Bill Ellis and
Scott Farnsworth rounded out the money.
The Emerton Boys kept the overall pace by finishing 7th and 8th, and so
the overall race is still in their firm grip. Nobody from the playoff pack
took very many daring risks; and nobody from the pack made a threat to the
Emerton dominance. Down at the playoff line, however, Jason Lee and Patrick
Godsey made a rush at the postseason, but with the exception of longshotters
SchussDaddy and Wego, JLee and Patrick finished last and next-to-last.
Wego, who was authentically desperate to make the playoffs, got only four
games right, and finished the week 78 points off Money's pace.
Because of the longshot failures, the playoff gap is now significantly
vast, and any change to the playoff picture looks unlikely. 13th place
Patrick Godsey is 19 points behind 12th place Kathy Walser, and so the only
possibilities of drama in Week 17 might come from the Charger/Bronco game,
where a 16-point swing is likely. Jen Retsek is 22 points from the line,
but it's difficult to see where she might pick up those points. JLee is 25
points out; Mike Godsey is 30 points out.
If only....

If the Vikings or Giants had won, Farnsworth would've won the week.
If the Pack had won, Franzen would've won the week. Franzen!
If the Chargers had won, Schwartz would've won the week.
If Money had merely finished middle of the pack last week (rather than
neglecting to make his picks), he'd be in 3rd place, about 20 points behind
Emerton.
Stats!
*****************
- Money's weekly trophy is his 13th, placing him 3rd on the all-time list.
- Godsey's money finish is his 63rd, placing him 1st on the all-time list.
- It has now been 79 weeks since Bill Ellis, current holder of The Slate,
has won the week. Adam Jennings is at 74, and Scott Farnsworth is at 71.
- Patrick Godsey and Kurt Schwartz are each 15-0 with the Colts.
- Diane Emerton is 15-0 with the Texans.
- We're not sure that anyone has ever gone 16-0 with any one team. Perhaps
JLee can help us out.
- Kurt Schwartz is 14-1 in Giants games.
- Bill Ellis and Robert Hassanali are 14-1 with the Titans.
- Only Money and Bill Ellis went 4-0 in "swing games" this week, and they
both finished in the money this week.
- Somebody finally scored points by picking San Francisco to win. The
Sabbes and Wego picked the Niners this week.
- Diane Emerton is 4-12 with her 1-pick.
- Mike Schussel, in last place by 67 points, is 13-3 with his 3-pick.
Picks of the Week
**********************************
Kevin Sabbe scored over 612 dots with his pick against the nothing-to-win
Bengals, but he was denied his prize in favor of Mike Godsey's anti-Eli
Washington pick. Bill Ellis also gave props to Money's prideful full boat.
Jason Sullivan got the red wig for his unexplainable 16 on the Rams.
Of course, explaining how or WHY the Niners won that game is probably even
more difficult. It is Sully's 12th COW, making him the greatest clown in
the history of our pool.
FunkyBowl Site Announced! Invitations are out!
***************************************************
The FunkyPool announced last week that this year's FunkyBowl will be in Half
Moon Bay, hosted by DOliver. The FunkO tradition will continue, but it
looks like this year's theme might be a little more relaxing, seeing as it's
right near the beach and plenty of golf courses and so on.
Team Old School (Eric Franzen and Mike Godsey) have already RSVP'd, and
have announced that they intend on bringing their own shuttlecocks and
winning the badmitton gold. A few others have declined, due to travel
limitations. Several people, however, have not replied at all, and we here
at Weekly Recap encourage those people to get on it. It's one thing to skip
the POW/COW voting, it's quite another to let a FunkyBowl host hang in the
wind when he should be making plans. At least try to shout out a "maybe"
and let him know when you might know.
Once the RSVP stage is accomplished, hopefully we can start announcing
some FunkyBowl IX details, right here at Weekly Recap.
Next Week!
*****************
All sorts of rivalry action:
Scott Wyatt's Giants travel to Raider Nation.
Money's Bears travel to KSabbe's Vikings.
Tully's Dolphins travel to Sully's Patriots.
And best of all (or maybe only of all):
Kathy's Broncos travel to San Diego.
Kathy would be smarter to pick the Broncos low and ease into the playoffs,
but we here at Weekly Recap expect K-Dub to "bring it" and try to end
her
season (and start the new year) with conviction, and maybe a rush at the
Slate.
See ya then...
(Remember, picks are due by Saturday this week).
