ADAM'S COMET CRASHES INTO URANUS,
Jennings wins Week 17; Emerton extends lead
*****************************************
It happens about once every 74 weeks: Jennings wins the weekly gold in the
FunkyPool. It was 73 weeks before Adam won Week 10 in 2001; then 74 weeks
later, Adam won the final week of 2005. Adam was also born in '74 which
Sabbe will probably tell you is "awesome" and JLee would probably tell
you
is "stupid."
Meanwhile, in more important news, Eric Emerton scored in the money
for the 10th time this season, and extended his lead on his 2nd-place father
and everyone else in the playoffs. Mr. Emerton is now a significant 22
points behind, and the rest of the pack is a probably-prohibitive 57 points
back. A playoff preview will be published in a couple days, but at first
glance, it looks like a two-horse race going into the postseason.
Elsewhere in the race, Kathy Walser surprised the critics by playing it
intellegently conservative, and not only held her playoff spot, but moved up
to 11th. But as expected, the playoff picture remained virtually the same,
summing up a regular season that showcased relatively little drama. In the
only slightly dramatic shift within the playoff seedings, Tully Wyatt got
pounded and fell 27 points off Emerton's pace. Everyone else did as they've
pretty much done all season: kept their position and fell a little bit
further behind Emerton's pace.
In news from below the belt, former Slate-winner Mike Godsey was in
position to not only make the playoffs but finish in the 11th spot -- until
the first two games were played, after which he was soundly eliminated.
Former Slate-winner Chris Sabbe finished up his atrocious season with a
last-place finish, solidifying his elimination with a big ker-splash.
If only....

- If the Raiders had won, Jennings would've won the week by 26 points.
- If the Chargers had won, Eric Emerton would've put the whipped cream on
his dream season with another weekly win.
- If the Bears, Cowboys, or Ravens had won, Ken Vis would've won the week.
KenDoggie!
- If the Bengals had won, Kathy would've won the week.
- If the Seahawks had won, Jason Sullivan would've won the week.
Stats!
*****************
- Adam's weekly trophy is his 4th. He won the week despite losing 501 dots
on the Raiders. We're not sure, but we would bet lots of money that nobody
has ever lost over 500 dots on one game and still won the week. Very
impressive comeback.
- It is the 5th time that Chris Sabbe has finished in the basement.
- Sullivan's money finish is his 53rd, 4th on the all-time list.
- Mike Schussel finished the season 344 points back of Eric Emerton, which
is the 3rd-worst of all time. He finished 60 points behind next-to-last
Chris Sabbe, which is only 5th-worst all-time. Kevin Sabbe has the record
by finishing 354 points behind the leader in 2001, which was 97 points out
of next-to-last.
- Chris Sabbe, Bill Ellis, Franzen, Wego, Schussel, and JLee all combined to
finish in the money as many times as Eric Emerton.
- Mike Godsey and Chris Sabbe -- 1st and 2nd on the all-time list of money
finishes -- combined for half as many money finishes as Eric Emerton by
himself.
- It has now been 80 weeks since Bill Ellis, current holder of The Slate,
has won the week. Scott Farnsworth is at 72.
- Eric Emerton went 17-0 with his 10-pick.
- Diane and Bill were the only two to go 9-0 with their 16-picks. Kathy and
Adam were 9-0 with their 15-picks.
- Patrick Godsey and Kurt Schwartz finished the year 16-0 with the Colts.
- Diane Emerton picked the Texans to win the game and lose Bush? It's the
first time all season she lost with the Texans.
- Kurt Schwartz finished 15-1 in Giants games.
- Bill Ellis and Robert Hassanali finished 15-1 with the Titans.
- Mike Schussel, in last place by 60 points, finished 14-3 with his 3-pick.
Picks of the Week
**********************************
Adam Jennings got love for two different picks, his full boat on the Browns
and his 491 dots on Denver, giving him "pick of the week" by default.
It is
Adam's 8th career POW, which is 8 more than Chris Sabbe.
For COW, Bill was nominated for putting a weak 5 on Favre's last game,
a game that Bill was at. An interesting nomination, but JLee takes it down
for thinking that Texas would want to avoid drafting Bush -- and putting a
16 on it. Have you ever seen Bush run with a football? It's almost as if
JLee was tired of his old red wig, and wanted a fresh one for the new year.
Next Week!
*****************
Wild Card games with no FunkyRivalries:
The Redskins at Godsey's Bucs.
The Jags at Sully's Pats.
The Panthers at Scott's Giants.
The Steelers at Godsey's Bengals.
Remember, even if you aren't in the playoffs, you have a chance to play in
the "second chance" playoffs, where all the losers start from scratch
and
play with typical "FunkyPlayoff" rules. A chance to see how you would've
done had you been in the playoffs, and win money at the same time. It's $10
towards the pot, and all you have to do is make your picks to be considered
in the game.
Before then, we should put out a playoff preview, but don't hold your
breath.
(Remember, picks are due by Saturday this week).
See ya then...
