Suicide Watch This:
Wego Bolts to the top in Week 3
----------
Even though 29 of the remaining 41 Suicide Pool entrants watched the
Giants game while tiptoeing a rickety stool, or the Bills game from a
warm bath, everybody eventually got to throw their suicide notes in
the fireplace and dance another day. Not only did the Giants and
Bills pull their games out at the end, but the Raiders are suddenly
competitive, the Niners are 2-1, the Broncos are 3-0, the Fish beat
the Patriots on the road, and a “crybaby” Charger fan took the weekly
title.
Keith “Wego” Wengronowitz was the only poolster to gain on
FunkyLeader Eric Emerton after he watched his Chargers beat up on
Zack’s Jets for the weekly win. It was his 8th win in 10 years, but
he was probably happier to see his Bolts save their season at home.
Undoubtedly, Wego also enjoyed moving from 14th to 4th in the overall
standings.
Now, not even Michael S. Godsey--recently counseled for existential
dread--has angst in his pants: “You could say that I lost my second
straight week at Invesco Field, but I’m really just happy that
Grammatica gave it his best shot. And frankly, seeing those happy fans
refreshed some good ol’ Rocky Mountain memories. Speaking of which:
Go Buffs! 3-0!”
Godsey’s newfound joy epitomizes the general feeling in the FunkyPool
this year. Not only are the aforementioned teams playing well, but
the poolsters themselves are all bunched up in one happy playoff
race. Last season after Week 3, Banker Bill Ellis had a 28-point lead
over Jason Lee, and the playoff line was at 66; this year ten playas
are within 28 points, and the playoff line is just 31.
Nevertheless, ex-champion Emerton looks like he’s regained his old
swagger--with three straight Top-4 finishes, he’s in the lead by a
couple of touchdowns.
If Only...
-------------
Eric Emerton would’ve won the week if the Bears or Panthers had won.
If the Saints had beaten the Broncos, Godsey would’ve won the week.
Kevin Sabbe would’ve won if the Rams had won, whatever that means.
If the Colts had hung on, Ron Salvatori would’ve won his first week
ever.
If his Jets would’ve won in San Diego, Zack would’ve won the week.
Instead, he gave 20 points to Franzen’s Raiders, and now he owes
Franzen a six-pack. 20 points!
POW/COW for Week 3!
------------
Somehow, Zack Schwartz, who gave himself the chance to watch his Jets
on Monday Night Football with a chance at winning the week, was
ridiculed with a COW. Meanwhile, our newbie was rewarded for putting
a 5 against the Bears. Hey, it’s a free country. Obviously. See the
webpage for comments.
