DO NOT PASS GO! DO NOT COLLECT 200 DOLLARS!
Banker Bill continues to monopolize board; wins 4th week
---------------------------------------------------------------------
For an absolutely sick 5th time in 7 weeks, Bill Ellis has won the week and collected
$15, and has now forced the Weekly Update to start recycling metaphors. Most of
the other players are broke and jailed, needing to roll doubles to get back in the
game—but terrified to move with just about every territory owned by the banker.
With hotels. Excepting just a few players, everyone is ready to flip the board
over and start over.
We’ve compared Bill to a king of a hill, a board game banker, and a despotic
ruler, but now he’s looking like something even scarier—the New England Patriots.
He looks that unbeatable. Mike Godsey once said that nobody would ever win five
weeks in one season; Bill has done it in seven weeks. Some famous athletes and
teams have predicted significant victories, but Bill Ellis is so torrid right now
that he is calling out when he’s not going to dominate the week. To refresh memories:
Bill won Week 17, made a mockery of the playoffs, won the Slate, won Week 1, finished
2nd, won Week 3, won Week 4, then called out “quick picks” for his anniversary weekend
and wrote “I’m sure my hot streak will end here” and finished in 12th. Then he
came back from vacation and won the week again.
Meanwhile, Hundy Boy’s once-mocked “Hundy Club” now includes 19 poolsters,
with just four poolsters within 98 points of the banker’s pace. The playoff line
is at 108, and JLee seems the only one within shouting distance at 41 points back.
Stats and observations:
- If Washington or Chicago had won, JLee would’ve won the week. In every other scenario,
Bill still wins.
- If the Seahawks (6 point favorites) had won, Bill would’ve had a perfect week.
- If 2nd-place JLee had picked every game perfectly over the past two weeks, he
would still be in 2nd place. If Patrick Godsey had just reeled off two perfect
weeks, he would still be over a hundred points behind Bill.
- Bill is now 23-0 with his picks of 12 or higher. He is 5-1 with his 11-pick.
- Only nine other poolsters have placed 3rd or higher in a single week this year.
Bill is averaging a third place finish.
- It is the 7th time that Bill has won the week, tying him with Wego, Diane, and
JLee on the all-time list. It is only the 2nd time that Zack has finished in last
place.
WHO’S HOT!
-------------
- Bill Ellis.
- After a rough hazing in Week 1, the newbie has moved from 20th place all the way
to 6th.
- Farnsworth has moved from 16th in Week 2 all the way to 4th.
- KenDoggie, once in 19th, is now in 7th.
WHO’S NOT!
-------------
A month ago, the FunkyPool fans in Shaver Lake were feeling an all-time high: Jennings,
Kevin, and Schuss were all in the Top Ten (6th, 7th, and 9th), and a certain Caitlin
had a crush on Godsey. Since then, the homocomfortable triumvirate has fallen to
9th, 10th, and 14th, and Godsey was trapped into a “wedding weekend” that included
a high school party in Fresno (“So are you still in school, Bro?” “Um, yeah kind
of”), an entire morning with Caitlin’s parents in a secluded cabin, an afternoon
shopping in a mall for a wedding shawl, and an outdoor October evening wedding in
the Sierras that (naturally) touched temperatures below 20. That’s pretty cold.
But not as cold as anything associated with sports and the Godsey family. Trevor
Hoffman can’t nail down one save, Cal’s quarterback can’t throw a ball out of bounds,
the Chargers can’t hold a lead at home against the Chiefs, and SLO High was dominated
by Atascadero’s football team, just hours after Godsey’s school-wide “inspirational”
Homecoming rally speech. If it weren’t for Zack, the Godsey boys would be in last
place and next-to-last—not only are they mathematically eliminated from Slate contention,
it appears that they are giving up the Brethren Cup after just six weeks.
Pick of the Week!
---------------------
Farnsworth received much love for his big Viking pick. See the website to read
the specific love letters. Zack was offered another rainbow wig for his pride in
his Jets.
Again we had 11 people come out and vote. Nice work, people.
Next Week:
-------------
Absolutely no rivalries, unless you count
JLee’s Niners at Scott’s Giants.
Which we don’t.
