Kathy Keeps it in the Family, Wins Week 7

It seems like just last year when the Emerton family terrorized the FMNFLP with a Mafia-like dominance, and the Godsey family just couldn’t stop yapping. Now the Godsey boys are silent, the Emertons are a combined 424 points behind the leader (in Week 7), and the Ellis-Walser Clan keeps collecting kickbacks for their nearly-scheduled family reunion in January.
Bill Ellis finally gave the pool another week off (and finished 4th), but Kathy Wathy took his place atop the standings, and Funky Wyatt also finished in the money. Now all three Wyatts are knocking on the playoff door, and Bill has extended his lead for a third straight week. The combo of Kathy and Bill have made more money in 7 weeks than Godsey, Godsey, Retsek, Retsek, Emerton, Emerton, Emerton, Sabbe, Sabbe, Schwartz, Franzen, Oliver, Jennings, and Schuss combined.
It also sets up a very interesting match-up between Bill’s Packers at Kathy’s Broncos on Monday night, where we might see how far family loyalty goes. And we might see also see how much it doesn’t ultimately matter to the rest of the pool. Scott Farnsworth, for example, in 5th place, is an almost prohibitive 50 points out -- of second place.





Stats and observations:

- The weekly win is Kathy’s 14th career win, tying her with HOFers Chris Sabbe and Money Retsek for third on the all-time list.

- It is also the 14th time that Farnsworth has finished in last place for the week. He sits at 4th on the all-time list.

- Bill Ellis has extended his overall lead in six of the seven weeks. He has also finished in the money in every weeks except one. The lone exception was the week he predicted he “would take off.”

- Though it used to be his one self-proclaimed skill, it’s now been 46 weeks since Mike Godsey has won the week, and 11 weeks since he’s won any money at all.

- Bill is now 26-0 with his picks of 12 or higher. He is 6-1 with his 11-pick.

- Adam Jennings is 7-0 with his 3-pick. He has losing records with his 1, 2, 4, and 5-picks.


- The pool in general is picking Bears games correctly 45% of the time, Bengal games at 49%, Packer games at 47%, Saints games at 40%, and Eagles games at 38%. Bill Ellis is 25-7 on games involving those teams.

- Several poolsters are undefeated with easy teams like the Colts, Patriots, and Cowboys. Only Adam Jennings is undefeated with the Niners, and only Kathy and Goose are undefeated with the Bills.

- Hassanali is 0-6 with the Eagles. Godsey is 0-12 with the Eagles and Panthers.

- Money Retsek is 1-6 with the Cowboys (the team he detests). His is also 1-6 with the Bears (the team he supports).


If Only....

If the Ravens or Jaguars had won, Bill Ellis would have won the week for the 5th time this year, and the 6th time in the last 8 weeks.

Kevin Sabbe would have won with a Falcon victory.

Money wins with a Dallas loss or a Raider win.

Diane wins with the Niners.

Zack wins with the Bucs, or his Jets.

Money also would have won if the Patriots had lost. I mean, just saying.




Pick of the Week!

The voter turnout dipped a little bit, perhaps owing to the tardiness of the Weekly Recap. Sorry: We’re doing what we can.

Nevertheless, 7 different picks were nominated as the best of the week. Zack’s 10 on the Bears (which was just about the luckiest pick in the history of God’s sweet planet) somehow won the honor.

After encouraging everyone to vote, DOliver was selected as Clown of the Week for the second time in three weeks. His highly reasonable Raider pick earned him the 5th rainbow wig in his 14-year career. You can see the website for commentary and explanation.
