ENOUGH! Two Streaks end:
Bill Ellis Wins Week 8
---------------------------------------
One of the hottest streaks in FMNFLP history, and one of the infamously
coldest streaks in the FMNFLP history, both came to a crashing halt last
week -- Bill Ellis won the week for the first time since Week 5 of 2001, and
Mike Schussel's runaway deisel finally came to a rest in 21st place. Bill's
proud "9" on the Packers was enough to win the week by a single point
over
Robert Emerton, just the second time in nine years that Bill has taken the
crown.
Bill's victory was partly due to an impressive solo shot on Dallas. It
is Bill's second career solo shot, and his first since he put a 1 on the
Cardinals in 2004.
Meanwhile, we are fondly reminded of a day back in the 1900's, when Wyatt,
Jennings, and Godsey among others, woke up way too early in the morning for
a 5k "fun run." The three of them were so hungover that Godsey had to
drink
a beer in the shower, and when they were all lined up to race, a cop told
them it was a 5 K race, not a five *keg* race. Regardless, Godsey broke
from the back and -- sporting a red, white, and blue headband --
triumphantly chased the pace car across the blocked-off intersections. He
was clearly in first place (out of thousands), but in case the photographers
and people on the sidewalk couldn't tell, Godsey put a single finger in the
air to let them know. By the fourth block, Godsey was gasping, and by the
second K he was basically walking. Not only did he get to see all his
friends pass him by, he got to see *everyone* in the race pass him by. He
joked later, "If you were in the race, I saw you."
This is Zack Schwartz right now. After being "free to make his own
picks," ZS bolted out ahead of everyone in Week One; he now walks in last
place, 74 points out.
On the other end of the spectrum, it's the Emertons back on top of the
yearly standings. Papa E is in first place overall, with Eric just 8 points
behind. The playoff line is still sitting a relatively low 38 points behind
the pace car, and 9 poolsters are within 10 points of that.
Stats!
--------
- This was the 10th time Kevin Sabbe has finished in last place, tying him
with Tully Wyatt on the all-time list.
- JLee finished in the money for the 57th time, tying Eric Emerton for
fourth on the all-time list.
- The Brothers Godsey are still broke. Only Jen Retsek can say the same.
Not once has Mike Godsey been noted in the "if only" section of this
newsletter.
- Only Chris Sabbe is 18-0 with his 16-13 picks.
- Jennings, a victim of the "Weekly Update Jinx" finally lost with his
5-spot.
- After Tully Wyatt went 30-0 with the Browns, Bears, Cowboys, Colts, and
Niners, he lost three out of four games involving those teams.
- Despite picking the Eagles as his 11-pick, Bill Ellis still won the week.
He is now 0-8 in Eagle games.
- Jen Retsek and Robert Hassanali are 0-7 in Jaguar games.
If Only....
If the Vikings, Seahawks, Eagles (Diane), or the Broncos, Panthers,
Steelers, or Cardinals (Papa) had won, an Emerton would have won the week.
Poor Emertons...
If the Jets had won, Farnsworth would've taken it.
If the Bucs had won, Pat Godsey would've won the week.
POW!
-----
An extremely dubious POW goes to the winner of the week, Bill Ellis. Pat
Godsey actually had more nominations from other people (for his full boat on
the RoadColts and his 11 on the Ravens), but Bill Ellis "earned" three
votes
(including one from himself) for his "Dallas 1" pick. Regardless of the
voting procedure, however, the Weekly Update gives props to anyone who wins
the week with a solo shot.
Meanwhile, Zack was villified for his P-R-I-D-E PRIDE PRIDE PRIDE, and he
gets his first official pair of floppy shoes.
Next Week:
No games we could actually call rivalries. Sorry.
Untill then....
